| Arvada Ceramic Arts Guild marks first anniversary with a show, sale, & reception |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Arvada, Co., June 6 /press release/ -- Arvada Ceramic Arts Guild – the only dedicated ceramics guild & gallery in metro Denver – celebrates its one year anniversary next Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, June 17 - 19, with a showing of artists’ works and a reception to follow. The Arvada Ceramic Arts Guild was started with lofty goals. “We wanted to be an incubator for emerging artists,” says Donna Kitchens, president of the guild and the first of ten founding members. Kitchens has had an on-again, off-again love affair with pottery. “I had been taking classes at a community center, but that only taught me how to throw pots,” Kitchens remembers. “I wanted to learn to run a gallery, how to fire my own work, how to create my own glazes. I wanted to learn the whole business of ceramics, from creation to sales, and I knew I wasn’t the only one.” And she wasn’t. Kitchens was able to convince nine other people to start a guild where other artists could create, glaze, fire, show, and sell their ceramics. Together, they incorporated the guild, rented a building located at 5870 Olde Wadsworth Blvd, and finished the 4600 square foot space with 18 studios, a glaze room, a kiln yard, a gallery, and a general work area that boasts a top of the line Thomas Stuart electric wheel and slab roller/extruder. In twelve months, membership has more than doubled from the original 10 to 24 people. And 17 of the 18 studio spaces are rented. “Of course,” notes Kitchens, “we wanted to limit the size of our guild to the number of pots that we could fire.” According to Kitchens, that number is currently 30 people. But they are adding another gas-fired kiln in the coming weeks. “We have had a great first year.” Kitchens beams. “We’re ecstatic about the next one.” ABOUT ARVADA CERAMIC ARTS GUILD: Located in Arvada, Colorado, Arvada Ceramic Arts Guild is dedicated to the ceramic arts and offers a variety of classes to the general public.
